COURSE OBJECTIVES
Coaching is often described as offering support to an individual. This process is focussed on performance and achieving goals. Mentoring is when someone oversees the development of another person who is usually less experienced in their work or in life. Both seek to promote the personal and professional growth of the individual, helping them to strategise and plan their own development.
Coaching and mentoring within an organisation is a powerful tool in the development of employees and can be carried out either by a manager or another staff member. It provides a safe opportunity for problems to be discussed and addressed and helps to develop the personal and professional competencies of the individual. This has the effect of improving the motivation of the employee and increasing their effectiveness which, in turn, strengthens the organisation. Research has shown that it increases the effectiveness of training programmes by about 85% if carried out afterwards, increasing the return on the investment in training.
